Medicare supplements (Medigap) are available to Bay Area residents age 65 and over. If you are turning 65, or you are over 65 and losing company benefits due to retirement, we highly recommend you look in to California Medicare Supplement Insurance. What is Medigap and why do you need it? Medicare supplement plans can help you pay for some of the medical expenses not covered by Medicare. (Medicare only covers 80 percent of your approved health care expenses when you turn 65).  Medicare Supplemental health insurance covers deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance and global emergency medical care. In addition to your Medicare Part B premium, you will pay a premium for Medicare supplements, but the cost is small in comparison to what you paid for coverage before you turned 65. You may enroll in a Medigap program on the first day of the month in which you turn 65, as long as you are enrolled in Medicare part B.
