Losing COBRA Benefits

COBRA benefits (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) allow employees who lose their jobs to continue their group health benefits for themselves and/or their families. COBRA benefits are available for a minimum of 18 months and potentially up to 36 months. Under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, if you lose your COBRA coverage outside of the open enrollment period, you will be given a special enrollment period in which to find an individual health plan.
